About SCSE

As an important part of Dalian University of Technology, the School of Control Science and Engineering (SCSE) aims to cultivate elite talents, to promote technological progress, to inherit excellent culture, and to guide social trends. Following the university academic motto “Be Diligent, Rigorous, Practical-Minded, and Creative”, the SCSE proposes its own motto “Be Rigorous, Pragmatic, Virtuous, and Erudite”, and creates the school culture of “Striving for the best and never give up”.

1956 witnesses that the team, led by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) Fellow WANG Zhongtuo, launched the Department of Industry Electrification, which was combined with the Department of Instrumentation and Automation in Chemical Engineering into the Department of Automation in 1994, and was further expanded as the School of Control Science and Engineering in 2009. Since October 2023, the School of Control Science and Engineering has been established independently.

The SCSE boasts a team of outstanding faculty. Until November 2023, the SCSE has 140 faculties and staff, including 97 professional teachers, 24 experimental teachers, and 19 administration staff. 21 winners of Outstanding Talents Projects, accounts for 21.6%.

Since 1956, the SCSE has cultivated over tens of thousands of undergraduates and thousands of graduates. Currently, the SCSE has 1138 undergraduates, 515 master candidates and 174 Ph.D. candidates. After graduation, the students fly successively and successfully to different fields including state administration, research institutes, enterprises, etc. In the past 60 years, the SCSE witnessed the growth and rise of many academic superstars, e.g., LI Lin, the Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and SUN Yv, the Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.

The SCSE carries on education and research on both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and has 5 national first-level undergraduate courses and 16 provincial first-level undergraduate courses. In addition, the SCSE possesses the primary discipline master and doctoral programs of Control Science and Engineering, and the post-doctoral research station of Control Science and Engineering.

Numerous efforts have been made to enrich the equipment of the SCSE and to strengthen the research capacity in all respects. In particular, the SCSE establishes 11 research institutes, a national center for experimental Electrics and Electronics education, and 12 scientific platforms, including National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Energy-saving Control Technology for Industrial Equipment; Key Laboratory of Intelligent Control and Optimization of Industrial Equipment, Ministry of Education; Engineering Research Center of Monitoring and Control for Industrial Equipment, Ministry of Education; Provincial Key Laboratory of Advance Control Systems for Industrial Equipment, Provincial Technology Innovation Center of Distributed Control for Industrial Equipment, Municipal Engineering Laboratory of Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks, etc.

In the past decades, the SCSE has contributed to a series of national projects and also won lots of awards from the State Council and the Ministry of Education, including the State Natural Science Award the Second Class Award (2020), the State Science and Technology Progress Award the Second Class Award (2002), the State Technological Invention Award the Second Class Award (2009), the First Prize of Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education (2002), the Second Prize of Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education (2022/2018/2007/2005), the Second Prize for Teaching Achievements of the Ministry of Education (2022), etc.

The SCSE offers both students and faculty numerous programs from the short-term visiting and exchange to the long-term self-improvement and joint collaboration. The SCSE warmly welcomes students and researchers from all over the world!
